How Many Missions Will GTA 6 Have? Count What Matters

Answer the GTA 6 mission-count question by separating story missions, heist phases, character routes and activities before comparing estimates.

The player-first answer

There is no official number that can be used as a completion target yet. The practical question is what a number includes: the story list measures the critical path, the heist page explains one robbery’s phases, and the activities page covers optional content that may affect 100%. Mixing them produces a bigger number without giving a better plan.

Current answer

The official answer is unknown. GTABites and other community trackers repeat ranges around 60–80 or 70–85 story missions, but Rockstar has not published a total. Treat those numbers as planning estimates, not a promise about the retail game.

Why the number is hard to compare

Counting choiceIncludedWhy totals move
Main storyCritical-path missions onlyExcludes strangers, random events and optional jobs
Heist phasesSetup, approach and finaleSome databases count each phase; others count one heist
Character routesJason-only, Lucia-only and shared entriesA branch may have one mission ID or several
Early-build catalogTest scenes and cut contentDevelopment material is not a retail checklist

Historical comparisons help explain the range but cannot predict GTA 6. GTA V is commonly counted as 69 story missions, while GTA IV is often counted as 88 depending on whether optional content is included. Red Dead Redemption 2 uses a different chapter and stranger structure. These are reference points, not a formula Rockstar has announced for GTA 6.

What the estimates can and cannot tell you

An estimate can suggest whether the campaign is likely to be a short critical path or a large completion project. It cannot tell you the number of save slots, the order of Lucia and Jason missions, the number of heist approaches or how many activities affect 100% completion. A community page may also use “mission” as a search-friendly label for an activity that is not a story mission.

The dual-protagonist setup is another reason to wait. A shared robbery could be one story entry even if both characters have separate preparation scenes. Counting every clip, setup and approach separately would inflate the total; collapsing every branch into one row could hide meaningful replay content.

A reproducible launch count

  1. Export the complete pause-menu mission list after the first patch.
  2. Assign a stable ID to each title and record its playable character.
  3. Count story entries separately from strangers, dynamic events and repeatable activities.
  4. Put heist setups and approaches under one parent unless the game assigns separate IDs.
  5. Publish the inclusion rules, excluded categories and date of the count.

This method makes later updates auditable. It also keeps this page separate from the GTA 6 missions list, which tracks names and evidence, and the heists index, which tracks robbery structure.

Planning scenarios

  • You only want the campaign: wait for the retail story list; ignore “hundreds of missions” headlines that mix activities into the count.
  • You are building a 100% checklist: keep an empty column for stranger and dynamic-event requirements until Rockstar or the game reveals them.
  • You are comparing leaks: compare definitions first, then numbers. Two lists may agree on content while counting phases differently.

Limits and FAQ

Rockstar’s official GTA VI page does not state a mission total. Pre-release reports can be outdated, incomplete or based on test content.

Is 70–85 confirmed?

No. It is a repeated community estimate with no Rockstar confirmation.

Will every heist approach add a mission?

Unknown. Count approaches as branches until the retail UI shows separate mission IDs.

When will this page change?

After an official mission guide, a retail release, or a verifiable Rockstar update changes the evidence boundary.
