GTA 6 is Rockstar’s open-world crime game, built around Jason and Lucia in the state of Leonida, and this wiki separates what Rockstar has shown from what communities only repeat. The clearest signal from the Extended Look is that time between crimes is no longer filler: it is a set of systems you operate.

The first thing to learn after a mission ends is Focus. It is confirmed for the retail build and does two things at once: it slows time while shooting and marks lethal and non-lethal areas on a target, and it highlights interactable objects and vehicle weak points in the environment. That makes it a search tool as much as a combat tool — use it once before entering a room and you will find loot and breakables faster.

Core mechanics you can already see

These come from Rockstar’s hands-off demo at Rockstar North, IGN’s itemised write-up and Rob Nelson’s interviews. They confirm that a feature exists, not its button map or its numbers.

  • One-handed long guns: not just pistols — a shotgun can be fired and reloaded one-handed, which suits driving or covering a partner (Guffi gameplay breakdown, 2026-08-30).
  • Crouch stealth: available anywhere, closer to Red Dead Redemption 2, used to stay out of the sight lines of guards, civilians and cameras.
  • Weapons are no longer invisible: long guns sit visibly on your back. Carried on the back they are ignored; held in your hands they make NPCs nervous, and some flee or confront you. Weapon lockers, car trunks and duffel bags become storage points.
  • Conditional crime: destroying cameras, disabling the security system and quietly taking the register is an official demonstration route. See how stealth robberies work in GTA 6.
  • Interiors and rooftops: elevators appear repeatedly in the footage, and creators who saw longer sessions say you can enter multi-floor interiors such as hotels. That part is a creator statement.
  • Animal compendium and petting dogs: the UI shows a “study animal” option, and you can ask an owner before petting their dog — the same idea as RDR2’s animal study.
  • Random encounters return: NPCs robbing each other, bystanders filming, someone backing out of a bridge jump, and a tied-up passenger in a stolen car’s trunk all appear on camera.

Stats decide what you can do

Jason and Lucia each have three main stats: health, stamina and focus. Food and drinks top them up temporarily; training raises the base values. This is not cosmetic. Stamina affects how long you can run, gym sessions need sets completed properly, and rushing them costs you the benefit. Long stretches without sleep or haircuts also change how a character looks (Famitsu interview, relayed by TmarTn2, 2026-09-11).

To see how this connects to inventory, vehicles and safehouses, read the Extended Look systems overview.

How the world answers back

The reaction chain is the easiest thing to miss. Draw a weapon and pedestrians walk away or turn aggressive. Someone calls the police, and the information they bring changes. Fire or hold fire, and the wanted and heat system records something completely different. Rockstar’s own summary is that how you commit a crime matters as much as which crime you commit.

Separating confirmed from cool-sounding

GTA 6 lists usually mix three kinds of claim: what official footage shows, what invited press recorded, and what creators inferred. The test is simple:

  1. If it appears in official Rockstar video, Newswire or screenshots, treat it as confirmed.
  2. If it only appears in an invited creator’s summary, treat it as reported — for example interior counts and some phone apps.
  3. If it is only a number, a button or an unlock order with no footage or quote, do not use it as fact.

This wiki labels pages on that basis, which is why one article can use both “confirmed” and “reported”. That is evidence strength, not hedging.

FAQ

Is Focus the same as Michael’s ability in GTA 5?

Not quite. It keeps the slow-motion shooting but adds weak-point and interactable highlighting, closer to a blend of RDR2’s Dead Eye and a scene scan.

Can long guns only be stored in the trunk?

The demo shows weapon lockers, personal vehicle trunks and duffel bags. Capacity and retrieval rules have not been announced.

Will these systems change at launch?

A hands-off demo is not retail tuning. Before launch this page records whether a feature exists, not its values, and will follow official patch notes if anything changes.
